Abstract

Recently, a large amount of information has been accumulated on understanding the causal role of
elevated lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] in the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD).
The analysis of the evidence base on this issue, conducted by experts of the European
Society of Cardiology, is published in the form of a Consensus in the European Heart Journal of 21
October 2010 The paper presents the role of Lp(a) as a risk factor for CVD, provides provisions
on the need for screening of Lp(a) in various risk groups, target levels and possible methods for
correcting elevated Lp (a) levels.
